Jordan: Cabinet Approves New Amendments to Anti-Corruption Law

Strengthening Anti-Bribery Laws and Regulations

AMMAN, JORDAN - The Jordanian government has approved a draft law amending Law No. 13 of 2016, the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Law, aimed at enhancing anti-corruption efforts in the country.

Enhancing Independence and Effectiveness

According to Minister of State for Media Affairs Amjad Al-Adaileh, the amendments will:

  • Enhance the financial and organizational independence of the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission
  • Enable it to investigate corruption cases more effectively
  • Bring Jordan’s laws into closer alignment with international anti-corruption standards

Key Provisions

The amended law includes provisions that:

  • Give the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission the power to conduct investigations into money laundering crimes
  • Allow for settlements with perpetrators who return stolen funds
  • Address abuse of power in corruption cases
  • Consider bribery as a criminal act, including attempts to influence voters or secure public office through illegal means
