Kazakhstan Introduces Stricter Laws to Combat Cybercrime

Astana, Kazakhstan - In a bid to boost cybersecurity in the country, Kazakhstan has introduced stricter penalties for individuals found guilty of violating personal data protection laws and other related offences. The move is aimed at combating the increasing trend of corruption cases reported in the country.

Tough Penalties for Violating Personal Data Protection Laws

Under new legislation, individuals found guilty of knowingly making false denunciations or failing to report a crime can face penalties ranging from fines to imprisonment. Those convicted of more serious offences, such as illegal distribution of electronic information resources with limited access, could face up to 7 years in prison.

Measures to Increase Awareness and Retrain Specialists

To combat the trend of cybercrime, the authorities have introduced measures to increase awareness of information security threats and to retrain specialists in the field of information security. The government has also set a goal to increase the use of domestic software products in the public and quasi-public sectors.
