Financial Institution Vulnerability Assessment in Kiribati Exposed: New Plan of Management Ensures Accessibility and Security

A new plan has been put in place to ensure the accessibility and security of Kiribati’s financial institution vulnerability assessment database, known as KIVA. The purpose of this plan is to guarantee that relevant climate change vulnerability information is available to stakeholders who need it now and in the future.

Objectives of the Plan

The objectives of the plan are threefold:

  • Define roles and responsibilities for key actors managing and using the database
  • Establish protocols around access to the database and its data
  • Define ownership of the contents and how they are managed

KIVA Database Features

The KIVA Database provides a range of datasets and interfaces to facilitate easy access and understanding by different audiences. The database hosts:

  • Integrated Vulnerability Assessment (IVA) dataset
  • Data from multiple sources to enhance data analysis and policy-making
  • Key datasets, including:
    • Forest Health
    • Coastal Health
    • Water Security

Access Levels

The plan outlines various levels of access to the KIVA Database, ranging from:

  • Administrators and designers who have full control over the database
  • Public users who can only view certain information

Note that the data is not highly sensitive, as it does not contain personally identifying information.

User Manual

To ensure optimal use of the database, a user manual has been developed providing detailed guidance on how to make the most out of KIVA. Those interested in learning more about the IVA database and its plan of management can contact the Office of the Beretitenti for further information.

Development of the Plan

The development of the plan was made possible through the United States In-Country National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Support Program in Kiribati, implemented by the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), host to the NAP Global Network Secretariat.
