Libya Puts Forward Financial Inclusion, Crime Prevention Strategies Amidst Economic Challenges
In an effort to combat corruption and financial crimes in Libya, the country’s legal and institutional frameworks are being strengthened by international partners. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is working closely with Libyan authorities to prevent and combat transnational organized crime, including human trafficking and migrant smuggling.
Strengthening Legal and Institutional Frameworks
The UNODC office in Libya is focusing on several key areas:
- Enhancing drug monitoring and analysis
- Providing support for detection, investigation, and prosecution of organized crime
- Improving access to justice for children
- Reforming the prison system to include alternatives to detention and social reintegration

The UNODC office in Libya is part of the Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa (ROMENA), which aims to contribute to peace and security, human rights, and development in the region.

- Supporting maritime safety and security management
- Establishing reliable forensic services in the Libyan justice system
- Building Libya’s national capacity to prevent and combat corruption and money laundering
