Mozambique Makes Progress in Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing Measures

The East Africa Anti-Money Laundering Group (ESAAMLG) has released a follow-up report assessing Mozambique’s progress in strengthening its anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing measures. The country has been under an enhanced follow-up process since the adoption of its Mutual Evaluation Report in 2021.

Progress Made

According to the report, Mozambique has made significant strides in addressing technical compliance deficiencies identified in its previous evaluation. ESAAMLG upgraded several recommendations from “partially compliant” to “largely compliant”, and maintained others as “non-compliant”.

Here are some key highlights:

  • Improved Compliance: Mozambique has shown significant improvement in complying with the FATF Recommendations.
  • Enhanced Implementation: The country has implemented measures to improve its anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing regime.

Next Steps

Mozambique will continue to be under enhanced follow-up, but is expected to benefit from improved implementation of its anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing measures. Regional authorities will closely monitor the country’s progress, with further evaluations expected in the future.

Key Area of Focus

Mozambique’s compliance with the Anti-Money Laundering Directive (AMLD) regulations remains a key area of focus for regional authorities.
