Franklin University Announces New Degree Requirements

In an effort to ensure students are adequately prepared for the workforce, Franklin University has announced new degree requirements that must be met in order to receive a degree.

Residency Requirement

To earn a bachelor’s degree, students must complete at least 30 credit hours at Franklin University. For associate’s degrees, students must complete at least 20 credit hours overall in residence at Franklin University.

Course Level Requirements

  • A minimum of 40 credit hours of 300/400-level courses is required for a bachelor’s degree
  • A minimum of 12 credit hours of 200-level or above courses is required for an associate’s degree

Business Core Requirements

Students pursuing degrees in business-related fields must complete the Business Core, which includes courses such as:

  • Accounting
  • Marketing
  • Financial Management

The Business Core provides students with a conceptual understanding of organizations and how to apply professional decision-making competencies and technical skills in today’s environment.

Major Area Requirements

To earn a degree, students must complete at least 20 credit hours in their major area, with a minimum GPA of 2.25. All major courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or better.

Capstone Requirement

Each major has a capstone experience that integrates and assesses the learning outcomes specific to each major. This course should be taken as the last major course.

Subsequent Degree Requirements

Students pursuing subsequent bachelor’s degrees must:

  • Earn at least 30 credit hours in residency at Franklin University
  • Complete at least 16 credit hours of major area courses equivalent to 300/400-level courses

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission, students must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Provide official documentation of graduation from an accredited high school or its equivalent
  • Have an associate, bachelor’s or master’s degree from an institutionally (formerly regionally) accredited institution of higher education

Placement Testing

All transcripts must be received and placement tests completed before students can register for courses. Students classified as degree-seeking will not be permitted to register for courses until all requirements are met.
