Bank of Jordan Introduces New Identification Procedures for Non-Jordanian Customers
Enhancing Customer Due Diligence and Anti-Money Laundering Efforts
Amman, Jordan - Bank of Jordan has introduced new identification procedures for non-Jordanian customers to enhance its customer due diligence and anti-money laundering efforts.
Required Documentation for Non-Jordanian Customers
- A true copy of their passport, signed by a competent employee
- Proof of address
- Proof of income or wealth
These documents will be required for all new account openings and must be provided before the bank can commence or continue any banking relationship with the customer.
New Requirements for Opening Correspondence Accounts
Correspondence accounts can only be opened for individuals who do not reside in the same country as the branch operating their account. This is designed to prevent the use of fake identities or listed entities.
Combating Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing
Bank of Jordan will refer to the following lists prior to commencing or continuing a banking relationship:
- The approved Unified List relating to anti-terrorist financing and money laundering
- Lists issued by the Security Council
- The Technica Committee’s list of Terrorist Persons or organizations
The bank will also verify that the customer’s name is not listed on any of these lists.
Compliance with Relevant Laws and Regulations
The new procedures are designed to ensure that Bank of Jordan is in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, including anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing regulations.
“We take our responsibilities seriously when it comes to ensuring the integrity and security of our customers’ accounts,” said a spokesperson for Bank of Jordan. “These new procedures are designed to prevent the use of fake identities or listed entities, and to ensure that all transactions conducted through our bank are legitimate and compliant with relevant laws and regulations.”
Implementation of New Procedures
The new procedures will come into effect immediately, and all non-Jordanian customers opening new accounts will be required to comply with these requirements. Existing customers will also be contacted by their branch to provide the necessary documentation.
