Norwegian Non-Profit Condemns Israeli Occupation, Calls for Boycott

A Leading Norwegian Organization Takes a Stance Against Israel’s Occupation of Palestinian Territory

The Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) has come out strongly against Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory, urging its government to take a stance against the illegal settlements that have led to widespread human rights violations. As a leading non-profit organization working in Palestine since 1987, NPA has supported local humanitarian relief projects and promoted positive political, social, and economic development for the Palestinian people.

The Impact of Israeli Settlements on Human Rights

NPA’s efforts have been hindered by Israel’s continued expansion of settlements, which the organization claims are responsible for numerous human rights breaches. In a recent statement, NPA urged Norwegian companies to avoid all trade and business activities with illegal Israeli settlements, citing the EU’s labelling of goods from occupied territories as well as warnings from over 20 EU member states against financial ties to settlements.

Condemning Israel’s Treatment of Palestinian Prisoners

NPA also condemned Israel’s treatment of Palestinian prisoners, including minors held without charge or trial. The organization believes that boycotting Israeli goods and services is a peaceful form of protest protected by free speech, and calls for pressure on Israel to end its occupation of Palestine.

Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza

The humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, with civilians facing a severe crisis since the outbreak of war in October 2023. Homes, schools, hospitals, and infrastructure have been destroyed or damaged, and NPA has provided aid and support to its local partners to distribute food and dignity kits, teach civilians how to prepare for explosive weapons, and raise awareness about settler harassment.

Condemning All Parties Involved

NPA has condemned the actions of both Israeli forces and Hamas militants, calling on all parties to de-escalate the situation and respect civilian life. The organization remains committed to promoting democratic values and human rights in Palestine, and will continue to work towards a peaceful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

A Separate Matter: NPA’s Settlement with the US Department of Justice

In 2018, NPA reached a $2 million settlement with the US Department of Justice over allegations that an organization associated with one of its programs had ties to a group on the US sanctions list. NPA denied any wrongdoing, claiming that the alleged offense was unrelated to its activities and that it had complied with all Norwegian laws.

Despite this settlement, NPA remains committed to promoting democratic values and human rights in Palestine, and will continue to work towards a peaceful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
