Operation Discovery 2.0: Disrupting a Transnational Criminal Enterprise
The operation, known as Operation Discovery 2.0, targeted seniors through fabricated stories about their grandchildren needing financial assistance following car accidents or arrests. This heartrending tactic, a variant of social engineering, gained the trust of the elderly victims, leading to economic exploitation.

Operation’s Focus & Achievements
The operation aimed to disrupt this criminal enterprise after a painstaking 13-month investigation. On the appointed day, 15 simultaneous raids were executed, targeting three suspected Call Centers.

According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, 14 individuals were detained and requested preventive detention for an 18-month period due to the severity of their involvement in the extortion network.
Previous Success: Operation Discovery 1.0
Operation Discovery 2.0 marks the second time this transnational task force has dismantled such a network. The first version of the operation, in March 2022, resulted in 46 formal defendants and five companies being indicted for sexual and economic extortion and identity theft targeting U.S. citizens.
