Credit Card Fraud Prevention in Uzbekistan: Be Cautious and Protect Your Finances

In recent months, there has been a significant increase in mobile fraud cases in Uzbekistan, resulting in unauthorized deductions from personal accounts. To avoid falling victim to these scams, Ucell is warning all subscribers to be cautious and take necessary precautions.

What’s Happening?

The company has received reports of fraudulent websites and phone numbers posing as prize winners or service providers, asking subscribers to provide personal information and transfer funds to unknown recipients. In some cases, fraudsters have even called subscribers, claiming to represent Ucell or other authorized organizations.

Precautions to Take

To prevent mobile fraud, Ucell is advising subscribers to follow these simple precautions:

  • Don’t Rush: Do not rush to follow instructions from strangers
  • Be Cautious: Do not trust suspicious sources
  • Verify Information: Contact the Ucell Call Center to clarify any information

Additionally, subscribers are advised to:

  • Avoid sharing personal information with unknown individuals, even if they claim to be representatives of banks or other authorized organizations.
  • Delete messages containing active links and received from unknown numbers.
  • Do not install applications from doubtful sources.
  • Use anti-virus software for phones provided only by official suppliers.

Other Measures

When using the “Mobile transfer” service:

  • Be cautious when transferring money
  • Carefully check entered data
  • Remember IMEI (a unique code) of your phone

If you lose or steal your phone, contact Ucell’s customer service office to block or restore SIM-cards as soon as possible.

Protecting Your Children

Parents are also advised to take steps to protect their children against mobile fraud, such as:

  • Deactivating roaming, international calls, and GPRS Internet services on their child’s phone
  • Using “Calls Filter” service
  • Explaining the dialing rules for emergency services
  • Installing speed dial of their contact numbers on their child’s phone
