FBI Warns Saint Helena Residents to Report Cryptocurrency Scams

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is urging residents of Saint Helena to report any suspected cryptocurrency scams to the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) immediately. If you or someone you know has fallen victim to a scam, it’s crucial to provide as much transaction information as possible.

Why Reporting is Important

Submitting a report can help identify and track fraudulent activities, potentially recovering stolen funds and preventing further losses. To ensure successful reporting, residents are advised to include transaction details such as:

  • Cryptocurrency addresses
  • Amount and type of cryptocurrency
  • Date and time
  • Transaction ID (hash)

Even if you’re unsure whether the transaction information is relevant, it’s recommended to include it in your report.

What Information to Provide

To submit a report, visit www.ic3.gov and click on “file a complaint”. Residents are also encouraged to provide any other relevant information they may have about the scam, including:

  • Where and how you first encountered the scammer
  • Communications with the scammer (emails, texts, etc.)
  • Domain names, website addresses, or applications used by the scammer
  • Two-factor authentication or “one time passcode” information
  • Cryptocurrency exchanges used to send or receive funds
  • Timeline of the scam

Don’t Have Transaction Information?

If you don’t have transaction information, it’s still crucial to submit a report and provide as much information as possible.

Ongoing Effort by the FBI

This warning comes as part of an ongoing effort by the FBI to combat cryptocurrency fraud. Previous alerts issued by the agency include warnings about companies falsely claiming to recover lost funds in cryptocurrency investment scams, a spike in cryptocurrency investment schemes, and criminals stealing cryptocurrency through play-to-earn games.

Stay Safe and Report Suspicious Activities

Residents are reminded to be cautious when dealing with unfamiliar cryptocurrency transactions and to report any suspicious activities to the FBI IC3 immediately.
