Reporting Suspicious Activity Made Easy in Mongolia
The Mongolian government has implemented several measures to curb crime and ensure public safety by making it easy for individuals to report suspicious activity.
How to Report Suspicous Activity
According to the Criminal Procedure Code of Mongolia 2017, individuals can file complaints or provide information about crimes to the police orally, in writing, or through communication technologies such as phone or email. The code also provides for a police hotline, mailing list, and email address for receiving complaints and information about crimes.
- Legal entities and officials must submit complaints and information about crimes in writing.
- The procedure for reporting a crime is standardized throughout the country.
Electronic Service for Reporting Crimes
In addition to these measures, the government has launched an electronic service called E-Mongolia, which allows individuals to generate various reports online, including police reports on criminal history. Launched in 2020, E-Mongolia provides access to 181 government services.
- The police report on criminal history includes information such as date and time of crime, location, and details of the perpetrator.
- Reports are available for free and can be obtained without any obstacles by submitting a written request to the investigator or prosecutor in charge.
Rights of Victims and Witnesses
Victims and witnesses have the right to view case file documents, including police reports. However, they are not allowed to request copies. If a court delivers a judgment, the decision will be available to anyone, although it may be restricted due to personal secrecy concerns.
Commitment to Public Safety
The Mongolian government’s efforts to improve reporting of suspicious activity and ensure public safety are commendable, demonstrating its commitment to protecting the rights of its citizens.
