Compliance Officer Responsibilities in Syrian Arab Republic

The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking a Compliance Officer to support the Risk and Compliance Adviser in ensuring effective risk assessment and management activities in Syria. The successful candidate will provide specialized advice and support on establishing effective risk assessment and risk management, application of controls and compliance with policies and procedures.

Job Purpose

  • Provide advice and support in the establishment of effective risk assessment and risk management activities
  • Apply controls and compliance with policies and procedures
  • Contribute to the overall effectiveness of operations and optimization of WFP resources by championing the mainstreaming of WFP’s risk and compliance framework

Key Accountabilities

1. Risk Assessment and Management

  • Support the CO Risk and Compliance Adviser in ensuring that risk assessment is embedded in planning and decision-making.
  • Facilitate periodic and ad-hoc internal control reviews or fact-finding reviews of functional areas and offices to identify key risks and opportunities.

2. Compliance and Internal Control Reviews

  • Identify lessons learnt and root cause(s) of recurring systemic issues/risks in operation.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports on the status of compliance of internal controls, key oversight themes, and using risk information to highlight areas out of risk appetite.

3. Reporting and Communication

  • Provide regular updates/reports to Management on matters related to risk, compliance and quality.

Desired Experiences

  • Humanitarian or development field with project management experience
  • Demonstrated experience in leading oversight teams and internal control reviews/audit
  • Conducted a risk analysis and developed risk mitigation strategies and performance plans

Standard Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Advanced University degree in business/public administration, project management, audit, finance, accounting, international development, or other relevant field

Experience

  • At least 5 years of relevant progressively responsible post-graduate experience in leading and undertaking performance plan, risk management activities

Language

  • Fluence in both oral and written communication in Arabic and English.
