British Virgin Islands’ Compliance Officer Responsibilities
The British Virgin Islands Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) is seeking a highly qualified Safety and Compliance Officer to join its team of professionals. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of workers by identifying and mitigating hazardous conditions in the workplace.
Job Summary
As a key member of the BVIHSA’s operations team, the Safety and Compliance Officer will develop policies, procedures, and protocols that comply with relevant laws, regulations, and standards. The role involves conducting job hazard analyses, performing accident investigations, and providing training to staff on safety regulations and compliance issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Policy Development: Developing policies, codes, safety standards, and procedures that align with BVIHSA operational policies.
- Job Hazard Analysis: Conducting job hazard analyses to identify specific job hazards, training requirements, and necessary personal protective equipment.
- Accident Investigation: Investigating accidents and reporting on findings to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Statistical Data Analysis: Compiling and analyzing statistical data to identify trends and patterns.
- Compliance Advice: Providing advice and counsel to management on applicable laws, regulations, and standards.
- Facility Inspections: Conducting monthly facility safety inspections and monitoring air quality for hazardous chemicals or organisms.
Additional Responsibilities
- Reviewing construction plans for fire code compliance
- Conducting evacuation drills
- Performing site inspections
- Planning and administering operating division safety committees
- Developing and conducting training classes for personnel
- Coordinating with security contractors
Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety or related field
- Advanced technical education in related areas (e.g., industrial hygiene, air quality, fire safety)
- Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or ability to obtain within one year
- Valid driver’s license
