Marketing Jordan’s Customs Due Diligence and Supply Chain Security Standards

AMIR Program

In an effort to secure and facilitate global trade, the Jordan Customs (JC) has initiated a voluntary self-compliance program called the Golden List Program (GLP). The program targets supply chain companies in Jordan, including importers, exporters, transporters, customs clearing agents, warehouse operators, and Qualified Industrial Zone (QIZ) manufacturers.

Objectives

The GLP aims to enhance customs due diligence and supply-chain security of participating businesses while facilitating trade with other countries. Companies that meet the minimum customs due diligence and supply-chain security criteria can become a GLP member and enjoy preferential treatment by JC, including:

  • Reduced frequency of inspections
  • Pre-arrival clearance of goods
  • Expedited clearance times

Implementation

The GLP is part of Jordan’s efforts to implement the World Customs Organization (WCO) Framework of Standards to Secure and Facilitate Global Trade. Jordan has already signed a letter of intent to implement the WCO Framework and is working with the private sector to implement the customs-to-business pillar of the Framework. The JC intends to implement the customs-to-customs pillar, starting with main trading partner countries.

Recommendations

Increase Awareness

  • Increase awareness among Jordanian businesses about the benefits of participating in the Golden List Program, including preferential treatment by JC.

Streamline Application Process

  • Streamline the application process for companies to become a GLP member, making it easier and faster for them to participate in the program.

Provide Training and Support

  • Provide training and support to companies that want to participate in the GLP, helping them to meet the minimum customs due diligence and supply-chain security criteria.

Enhance Communication

  • Enhance communication between JC and participating businesses to ensure a smooth implementation of the GLP and to address any concerns or issues that may arise.

By implementing these recommendations, Jordan can further enhance its customs due diligence and supply-chain security standards, making it an attractive destination for international trade and investment.
