Shire of Cocos (Keeling) Islands Unveils Corporate Business Plan for 2020-2024

The Shire of Cocos (Keeling) Islands has released its Corporate Business Plan for the next four years, outlining its commitment to providing and maintaining recreation and cultural facilities, constructing and maintaining roads, regulating economic development, and ensuring all council plant and equipment is in good working order.

Key Objectives

  • Maintain existing service levels while improving them in the long term
  • Provide an indication of the net funding available from operational activities and underlying assumptions and predictions

The plan aligns with the shire’s Strategic Community Plan 2016-2026, which outlines the community’s long-term vision and aspirations. The four key result areas identified in the strategic plan are:

Economic Development

• Support and assist tourism, recognized as an important economic driver for the islands • Collaborate with the Cocos (Keeling) Islands Tourism Association to increase collaboration between the association and the shire • Ensure that shire processes focus on proactively enabling tourism operators to develop their businesses • Provide and maintain facilities that enhance the visitor experience • Seek grant opportunities to implement the Trails Masterplan shovel-ready project

Social

• Develop measures for each key result area in consultation with council and community stakeholders • Focus on delivering high-quality services to the community

Environment
