Parliamentary Staff Member Accused of Misconduct

A complaint has been filed against a member of parliamentary staff alleging habitual late attendance to work, absence without prior leave, and other forms of misconduct.

Allegations of Misbehavior

According to the complaint, the employee was habitually late to work on several occasions, and failed to provide adequate notice of their absences. The complainant also alleges that the employee:

  • Disobeys instructions from superiors
  • Engages in insubordinate behavior
  • Conceals defective or substandard work
  • Malingers at the workplace
  • Uses indecent language

Further Allegations

The complaint also accuses the employee of:

  • Failure to exercise proper supervisory functions
  • Neglecting duties
  • Breach of trust and confidence
  • Unauthorized use of Office vehicles for personal gain
  • Failure to protect confidential information

Response Required

The employee has been given seven days to respond to each of the allegations in writing. If a response is not received, the matter will be dealt with under the Parliamentary Services (Disciplinary) Regulations 2021.

Investigation Underway

The full list of disciplinary offenses can be found in Schedule 1 of the regulations. The Clerk of Parliament has issued a formal memorandum to the employee outlining the allegations and requesting a response. This development comes as a shock to many who work at the parliamentary complex, where high standards of conduct are expected from all employees. The matter is currently under investigation, and it remains to be seen what actions will be taken against the accused employee.
