Mongolia Compliance Reporting Project: Strengthening Respect for Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work
The European Commission has funded a four-country project aimed at strengthening respect for fundamental principles and rights at work in Mongolia, along with three other countries. The project, running from October 2015 to March 2018, is part of a larger initiative to promote international labour standards.
International Labour Standards: A Growing Focus
According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), the number of bilateral and multilateral trade agreements containing social and labor provisions related to workers’ rights has increased significantly over the past two decades. Many of these agreements refer to ILO instruments, including the 1998 Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work.
Mongolia’s Efforts: Improving Labour Market Governance
The project in Mongolia is focused on supporting the country’s efforts to improve its labour market governance by giving effect to ILO’s Fundamental Conventions and other international human rights instruments. Specifically, it aims to help Mongolia bring its reporting on ILO Conventions up-to-date and align its law and legislation with fundamental rights at work.

To achieve these objectives, the project will:
- Provide training on international labour standards reporting
- Organize information sessions on ILO conventions and their supervisory mechanisms
- Offer advisory notes on unacceptable forms of work and collective bargaining in wage negotiation
- Support advocacy campaigns by workers’ and employers’ organizations on international labour standards and revised labour laws
Target Beneficiaries

- Ministry of Labour
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs
- Ministry of Industry
