Tanzania’s Ministry of Finance Invites Stakeholders to Participate in Tax Reform Discussions Ahead of Budget 2024/25

The United Republic of Tanzania’s Ministry of Finance has issued an invitation to stakeholders to participate in the upcoming proceedings of the Task Force on Tax Reform, ahead of the country’s budget for 2024/25. The working sessions of the Task Force are set to kick off in February 2024.

Background


According to a statement released by the ministry, the Task Force provides a platform for discussion and analysis of various issues relating to tax policy and administration. Its deliberations have played a crucial role in shaping Tanzania’s tax regime over the years.

Objectives


The fiscal policy measures aim to:

  • Improve the business environment
  • Attract investments
  • Facilitate the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises
  • Enhance voluntary tax compliance
  • Broaden the tax base
  • Strengthen the enforcement of tax laws to address tax evasion challenges and minimize revenue leakages

Stakeholder Participation


Stakeholders are invited to submit proposals from government officials, private sector organizations, civil society groups, religious organizations, academia, research institutions, and other specialists in public finance. Submissions should include:

  • Firm information
  • Proposed changes in tax or non-tax revenue
  • Analysis of the sectors or taxpayers affected
  • Projected impacts on the economy and government revenues
  • Justification for the proposed revenue policy changes
