Tech Companies’ Due Diligence in Occupied Palestinian Territories/Israel Under Scrutiny
As violence and suffering escalate in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT) and Israel, the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre is closely monitoring company activity and the private sector response to the crisis. The tech sector plays a central role in this conflict, with companies approaching hate speech on media platforms, using surveillance technology, providing vital information for humanitarian responses, and contributing to military strategies.
Heightened Human Rights Due Diligence
In line with the United Nations Guiding Principles for Business and Human Rights (UNGPs), the Resource Centre is tracking companies’ heightened human rights due diligence measures in OPT/Israel. We are making public the efforts of companies operating or supplying the region to demonstrate transparency and accountability.
Company Survey Response
We invited 104 tech companies to respond to our survey, but only four provided a response:
- HPE: HPE response on heightened human rights due diligence in OPT/Israel
- Ericsson: Ericsson response on heightened human rights due diligence in OPT/Israel
- TikTok: TikTok response on heightened human rights due diligence in OPT/Israel
- Meta: Meta response on heightened human rights due diligence in OPT/Israel
- Expedia: Expedia’s response on heightened human rights due diligence in OPT/Israel
Expectations
We will continue to post responses as we receive them and will shortly publish the names of all non-responders for full transparency.
Call to Action
We hope to persuade other companies to respond quickly and demonstrate their commitment to respecting human rights in OPT/Israel.
