The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) has launched a major drive to tackle financial crime in the country, with its Financial Investigation Branch (FIB) taking the lead in investigating and prosecuting individuals accused of money laundering, terrorist financing, and financing weapons of mass destruction.

Mandate and Responsibilities

The FIB is mandated by law to enforce the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA), as amended by Act No. 15 of 2014, and the Anti-Terrorism Act. As part of its efforts, the FIB is responsible for:

  • Investigating cash seizures made by police officers under POCA
  • Forfeiting seized cash

Cash Seizure Guidelines

It’s worth noting that only senior officers holding the rank of sergeant or above are authorized to seize cash, which must exceed TT$20,000.00 or its equivalent in other currencies.

Contact Information

The public can get in touch with the FIB at its headquarters located on the 13th floor of Riverside Plaza, Besson Street, Port of Spain. Phone calls can be made to (868) 627-4281 for any inquiries or concerns related to financial crime.

Impact and Expertise

With its expertise and resources, the FIB is well-equipped to tackle the complex web of financial crimes that plague Trinidad and Tobago, and its efforts are expected to make a significant impact in the country’s fight against financial wrongdoing.
