Turkmenistan Takes Steps to Prevent Financial Crime as Part of Regional Efforts
Strengthening the Fight Against Financial Crime
Turkmenistan has been actively participating in regional consultations on developing national reports on anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism. The country’s specialists from profile ministries and departments met with international experts via video conference format, organized by the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat.
Commitment to Regional Cooperation
As a member of the Eurasian Anti-Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism Group (EAG), Turkmenistan is committed to reducing the threat of international terrorism and promoting efficient cooperation among its member states. The country has been actively working towards:
- Consolidating efforts to detect and eliminate financial money-laundering activities
- Developing a single integrated approach to eliminate security threats, including organized crime, terrorism, radicalism, and extremism
Improving National Legislation
Turkmenistan’s national legislation is being improved, with the country exchanging best practices and information with foreign partners. International standards and advanced practices are also being studied to ensure that the country’s financial systems are:

Regional Association and FATF Membership
As a regional association and associated member of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the EAG plays a crucial role in promoting regional cooperation and ensuring that its member states adhere to international anti-money laundering and combating terrorist financing standards. With Turkmenistan’s active participation, the country is demonstrating its commitment to fighting financial crime and strengthening regional security.
