Compliance Officer Role at United Bank for Africa (UBA) Uganda

United Bank for Africa (UBA) Uganda is seeking a highly skilled Compliance & Data Protection Officer to join their team in ensuring regulatory compliance and upholding high standards of data protection.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing a comprehensive compliance framework that monitors internal data protection regulations and updates the bank on its compliance levels in line with regulatory laws and standards. Additionally, they will build a strong Know Your Customer (KYC) environment to prevent money laundering and terrorist financing, while serving as the point of contact between the bank and supervisory authorities.

Key Responsibilities

Compliance & Data Protection Officer

• Conducting KYC and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) on customer accounts and transactions
• Providing AML/KYC compliance counseling and advisory services to business units
• Reviewing, developing, and implementing data protection policies in line with Ugandan laws and regulations
• Formulating and overseeing programs to raise awareness about data protection within the bank
• Monitoring compliance with all relevant legislation and regulations related to data protection

Requirements

Ideal Candidate

• First degree in Accounting, Banking & Finance or a related discipline
• At least three years of banking experience in operations, audit, compliance, and internal control
• Good knowledge of banking operations, regulatory guidelines, and data protection practices
