Montserrat Boosts Cybersecurity Efforts with UK Government Assistance
Montserrat has taken a significant step towards strengthening its cyber defenses by welcoming two cyber specialists from the UK Government to the island. These experts will work closely with Dr John Lewis, the territory’s new Chief Information Officer (CIO), and his team to enhance cyber awareness and implement measures outlined in a comprehensive cyber risk review conducted last June.
Strengthening Cybersecurity Posture
The visit marks the next stage in a series of initiatives aimed at bolstering Montserrat’s cybersecurity posture. The UK Government specialists will provide training and guidance on:
- Data Protection Legislation: Ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations
- Cyber Security Awareness: Educating government officials, critical national infrastructure providers, and citizens on cyber security best practices
- Conducting Risk Assessments: Identifying potential vulnerabilities in critical national information infrastructure (CNII) installations
Tabletop Simulation
A key component of the exercise is a tabletop simulation scheduled for Friday. This interactive scenario will simulate a fictitious cyber attack, allowing participants to respond in a safe environment and develop strategies for responding to such incidents.
Participants
- Deputy Premier Dr Samuel Joseph
- Senior government officials
- Critical national infrastructure providers
UK Government Support
Governor Her Excellency has expressed gratitude for the UK Government’s continued support and expertise in this critical area of security. She looks forward to continuing the partnership on other technical matters, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in enhancing Montserrat’s cybersecurity posture.
This joint effort demonstrates the commitment of both parties to strengthening cyber defenses and ensuring the long-term security and prosperity of Montserrat.
