International Cooperation in Combating Financial Crime Boosted Between UN and Iran

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Islamic Republic of Iran have strengthened their collaboration in combating financial crime, marking a significant step forward in their partnership.

Agreement Reached during Meeting between UNODC and Iranian Law Enforcement

A meeting was held between Brigadier General Majid Karimi, Deputy General Commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Law Enforcement, and Mr. Alexander Fedulov, UNODC Iran Country Representative, within the framework of the UNODC Country Partnership Programme in the Islamic Republic of Iran for 2023-2026.

Areas of Collaboration

The parties agreed to enhance their cooperation in various areas, including:

  • Combating transnational organized crime
  • Money laundering
  • Terrorism financing
  • Human trafficking
  • Migrant smuggling
  • Economic and financial crimes

Brigadier General Majid Karimi acknowledged the efforts made by the UNODC Iran Country Office in providing technical assistance to national counterparts and improving regional and international cooperation in criminal matters. He expressed his readiness to expand collaborations with the UNODC and international partners.

Mr. Alexander Fedulov provided updates on negotiations between the Iranian government and UNODC, aimed at moving forward their collaborations within the framework of the 2023-2026 Country Partnership Programme. He commended the efforts and work of Iranian law enforcement in combating various types of crime and expressed his office’s interest in expanding collaborations in areas of mutual interests.

Continuing Technical Cooperation

The parties agreed to continue their technical cooperation within the framework of the current Country Partnership Programme, which aims to strategize technical cooperation with government counterparts on matters related to combating various forms of crime and promote regional and international cooperation in criminal matters.
