US Steel’s Slovakia Affiliate Issues Anti-Corruption Guidelines for Business Partners
Bratislava, Slovakia - A Step Towards Compliance with International Laws
US Steel Košice, s.r.o. (USSK), a major steel producer in Slovakia, has introduced guidelines to ensure its third-party business partners comply with international anti-corruption laws.
Preventing Corruption and Ensuring Compliance
The guidelines, effective immediately, aim to prevent corruption by ensuring all transactions with government officials and commercial business partners adhere to applicable laws and regulations. USSK’s third-party business partners must not offer or provide gifts, travel, entertainment, charitable donations, or other perceived advantages to influence decisions or secure an improper business advantage.
Key Guidelines for Third-Party Business Partners
- Definition of Government Officials: USSK defines “government official” broadly to include officers, employees, agents, and individuals acting on behalf of governments, governmental agencies, or entities.
- Prohibition of Facilitation Payments: USSK strictly prohibits payments in excess of an official fee made to a government official to secure or expedite routine and non-discretionary governmental actions.
- Business Courtesies and Contributions: Third-party business partners must not provide gifts, meals, entertainment, travel, lodging, hospitality, political or charitable contributions, or anything else of value to government officials or commercial business partners on behalf of USSK or in connection with their business.
- Accurate Invoicing and Documentation: All invoices, documents, and records provided by third-party business partners must be accurate and include reasonable detail.
Risk-Based Due Diligence Process
USSK has established a risk-based due diligence process for all current and prospective third-party business partners. This includes completing a questionnaire and providing other relevant information.
Reporting Concerns
The company encourages its third-party business partners to report any questions or concerns related to these guidelines or applicable laws to their legal department and/or ethics and compliance officer.
