The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) was designated for restricting or denying the free flow of information to or from the Iranian people. IRIB has also been implicated in censoring multiple media outlets and airing forced confessions from political detainees.

Financial Support for Terrorist Organizations

Day Bank Funneled Money to Terrorist Organizations

Day Bank, a financial institution with ties to Iran’s Martyrs Foundation, has been designated for providing significant financial support and banking services to terrorist organizations. The Martyrs Foundation was established by Iran’s government to provide financial support to families of killed or imprisoned terrorists.

Shipping Sector Targeted

Iran’s National Maritime Carrier and Oil Transport Giant Designated

Iran’s national maritime carrier, Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL), and oil transport giant National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) have been identified for their role in Iran’s shipping sector. IRISL subsidiaries have been used to transfer passengers, cargo, and personnel for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Nuclear Research and Development Organization Designated

Atomic Energy Organization of Iran and Subsidiaries Sanctioned

The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), responsible for nuclear research and development, has also been designated along with 23 AEOI subsidiaries and associated individuals.

Aviation Sector Targeted

Iran Air, National Airline of Iran, Designated

Iran Air, the national airline of Iran, has been identified as owned or controlled by the Iranian government. 67 aircraft operated by Iran Air have also been added to the list of sanctioned entities.

Sanctions Implications

  • Any person or entity engaging in transactions with these designated entities may themselves be exposed to enforcement action, designation, or blocking sanctions.
  • Foreign financial institutions that knowingly facilitate significant transactions for these entities could face U.S. correspondent or payable-through account sanctions.
