US Updates Sanctions List on Zimbabwe, Adds New Name Amid Concerns Over Outdated Entries
The United States has updated its sanctions list on Zimbabwe, adding prominent businessman Kuda Tagwirei to the list of individuals and entities subject to financial restrictions. However, the new list still raises concerns over outdated entries, as it includes several individuals who have since passed away or changed positions.
New Addition: Kuda Tagwirei
Tagwirei, a Zimbabwean businessman with alleged ties to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government, has been accused of being involved in corrupt activities and human rights abuses. His addition to the sanctions list is seen as a step towards increasing pressure on the Zimbabwean government to address its human rights record and allegations of corruption.
Outdated Entries
Despite the new addition, the updated list still includes several individuals who have passed away or changed positions since their names were added. Notably, Happyton Bonyongwe, a former Director General of the Central Intelligence Organization, has been deceased for several years. Similarly, George Charamba, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Publicity, is no longer serving in that role.

The updated list also includes several entities, including farms and mining companies, which are subject to sanctions due to their alleged involvement in human rights abuses and corruption. These entities include:
