Uzbekistan Enhances Fight Against Financial Crime with Training Program

Tashkent, Uzbekistan: A Leap Forward in Combating Corruption and Money Laundering

In a bold move to fortify its capabilities against financial crime and money laundering, Uzbekistan has launched a comprehensive training program for financial professionals. This initiative is a testament to the country’s commitment to enhancing transparency and accountability in its financial systems.

Partnerships for Progress

The International Centre for Asset Recovery (ICAR) collaborated with the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan (PCUz) and the Swiss Co-operation Office under the Swiss Embassy in May 2015. This partnership aimed to support Uzbekistan’s efforts to combat corruption, ultimately leading to a training workshop delivered by ICAR experts in September 2015.

“Financial Investigations and Asset Recovery” Training Workshop

  • The four-day workshop focused on enhancing the capacity of stakeholders from various institutions, including:
    • General Prosecutor’s Office: Uzbek Financial Intelligence Unit and International Co-operation Department
    • Ministry of Interior: Investigators
    • National Security Service: Investigators
    • Customs Department: Investigators
  • The training emphasized the importance of asset recovery in increasing professionalism among authorities when handling international requests for mutual legal assistance.
  • This enables them to cooperate efficiently with foreign jurisdictions, fighting money laundering and repatriating stolen assets.

Strengthening Anti-Money Laundering Framework

The training program is a critical step towards enhancing Uzbekistan’s anti-money laundering framework. With this initiative, the country takes a significant stride towards ensuring greater transparency and accountability in its financial systems.

This collaboration between international organizations and Uzbekistan highlights the importance of collective efforts in combating financial crime and promoting good governance practices worldwide.
